    ProfiShark is one of our most powerful portable network TAPs. For network engineers, it is a perfect tool dedicated to portable troubleshooting for network monitoring, combining performance and flexibility.
    It is also the only TAP on the market that allows a laptop to capture 10G network interface traffic, while being the simplest and most reliable long-term packet capture analyzer.


    This handheld 1G/10G TAP is equipped with two network interfaces that can capture network packets in inline or mirror mode. It requires only a laptop or a desktop computer with a free USB 3.0 port, through which the traffic is transferred to the computer. ProfiShark is the ultimate solution for on-site testing and performance monitoring.


    In inline mode, as a non-intrusive tool, the network does not detect the presence of the ProfiShark 1G, and no packets are altered.
    This allows you to capture network traffic without affecting network security or performance. Powered through USB 3.0, the ProfiShark 1G captures the most accurate and genuine network traffic, including high-precision nanosecond-level timestamps and packets of any size and type.
    The captured packets are saved in PCAP format and can be read and analyzed by Wireshark or other network analyzers.


    The ProfiShark products also include other important features, such as hardware packet filtering, statistics and configuration options, as well as our own ProfiShark Manager application.

    How ProfiShark 1G Outperforms Traditional 1G TAPs?
    As a fast and portable network TAP, ProfiShark is always ready to fully capture any type of packet at any field location, without any packet loss or time delay.
    • When using a traditional TAP to copy packets to a PC or laptop network interface and capture traffic through Wireshark, in theory, packet loss occurs once the bidirectional traffic passing through the TAP exceeds 1 Gbps—the theoretical receiving limit of the PC or laptop’s NIC.

      In real-world conditions, packet loss can already begin when traffic exceeds as little as 400 Mbps (about 40% of link capacity)
       

    • By using ProfiShark as the TAP and connecting it to a PC or laptop via USB 3.0, even when the bidirectional traffic copied from the TAP reaches 2 Gbps, Wireshark can still capture the traffic without any packet loss, thanks to the high-bandwidth performance of the USB 3.0 interface.

    By integrating with a Synology NAS for storage and installing the ProfiShark application on the Synology DSM system, users can operate directly within the DSM interface.

    With the NAS’s large storage capacity, the long-term capture feature makes it easy to record and analyze intermittent or recurring network issues over extended periods.

     

    In some cases where security policies allow, the NAS can synchronize captured PCAP files to cloud storage.
